In 1939, Philco updated their lineup completely with new slide rule dials with thumbwheel controls, much boxier cabinets and unfortunately, lots of rubber wiring.  Philco also moved away from the high fidelity experimentation they had done in the previous two years, and into consumer comfort features.  One of their most exciting features was the Mystery Control, available on the high-end 39-116 models.
